We love surveying in beautiful downtown Hendersonville. With all the wonderful weather we have been having lately (aka blizzards, snow, ice, etc.) it was great to work on a beautiful sunny day. This project was a fun one. We had to put together not only a survey, but a site plan for a lovely old building that is being renovated. Site plans typically include locating all existing utilities, drives, parking, and landscaping, seeing what you have, figuring out what you need to have for the City and then putting it all together. With the complex zoning regulations that most municipalities have in place these days, it’s important that your surveyor know what is needed to get your project from paper to reality. Call us today and we’ll do the work you need to succeed!
As surveyors, we are used to locating corners, staking out houses and drawing maps. It’s not everyday we get to play on the lake! This project was on Lake Lure and we had to locate a dock that is slated for expansion. There were 131 steps from dock to house and suffice it to say – we are still trying to catch our breath. Do you need help with a unique project? Call us today and we will climb up – or down – to get you the information you need!
As many of you know, this has been a very WHITE winter. And, while beautiful, it makes construction stakeout a bit d-icey! But, when we are able to thaw our fingers, we keep staking away. This project included sewer lines, water lines and storm drain installation. We found that an early start, although much colder, made for less mud as everything was still frozen! Do you have utilities that need locating or installed? Call us today and we can help you make your project a reality no matter the conditions outside!
What a crazy year this has been for outside work. Every other week a major snow storm wreaks havoc with our schedule. But, like the post office, snow or shine we our out getting the job done. Take a look at this lovely day – we had to flag dozens of trees on the side of a mountain in 6 inches of snow!! Call us today and we will get your project finished no matter what nature throws at us!
I ran across this passage from Deuteronomy the other day and it got me thinking about how old the practice of land surveying really is!
This is from the New American Standard Bible:
Deut 19:14: “You shall not move your neighbor’s boundary mark, which the ancestors have set…”
I looked up when Deuteronomy was written and it was completed in 1473 B.C.E.! So that got me thinking . . . who started surveying first?
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, it appears that the earliest known surveyors came from ancient Egypt. The Great Pyramid at Giza was built c. 2700 bc and is 755 feet long. What’s amazing is the fact that it is nearly perfectly square AND nearly perfectly oriented north-south.
Also, I won’t bore you with the details – although fascinating – a 3000 year old Babylonian boundary stone was found that had inscribed on it the description of the property, the name of the surveyor, the owner of the land and much more.
Why do you care? The surveying profession traces back 1000s of years and is still going strong despite the poor economy! Call us today and we can help you find your PLACE in history.

For anyone who has ever had to recover corners you would appreciate this day! I needed kevlar skin the briars were so thick! Not only were we finding property corners, but we were also doing a topo/tree location on an 8.5 acre portion of this property. It was so thick that I found a weedeater in the briars! Call us today and who knows what we can find for you!

This site has been a long time coming, but we are excited it is here! At KLS, we endeavor to keep up to date with the latest in land surveying and local community news. If we see something that strikes our fancy, we’ll let you know about it.
Please continue to check back often, as we will regularly post new content. Until then . . .
